Vehicle Description
The Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 stands as one of the marque's most esteemed
pre-war models, known for its elegant design and racing prowess.
Originating in the mid-1930s, the 6C 2300 series was developed to
balance performance with luxury, featuring advancements that
solidified Alfa Romeo's reputation in both grand touring and
competitive motorsport circles. This particular example, has
undergone a remarkable transformation into a Monza, reflecting the
meticulous craftsmanship and historical significance inherent in
Alfa Romeo's storied legacy. This Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 began its life
as a very early example of the revered model. Over the years, as
was common with many pre-war 6Cs, its original bodywork was lost.
However, the rolling chassis, engine, and gearbox, remained intact.
Historical documents detail the transfer of this chassis to Roger
Bussy of Paris, France, on February 15, 1949, affirming the
continuity from that time.Subsequent ownership saw the chassis sold
to Mr. R. Williams of Australia, and later to Augustine Banko. The
most recent custodian, an enthusiastic 8C 2300 owner, acquired the
remains from Mr. Banko and commissioned its transformation into a
6C Monza, meticulously tailored for vintage racing. At the time of
acquisition, the chassis was expertly constructed to 8C Monza
specifications, honoring the original specifications with
exceptional attention to detail. The work on this car took place
between 2004 and 2008 by the respected Automotive Restorations Ltd
in Christchurch, New Zealand. Their work resulted as the Alfa in
its current form. At the same time there were several pre-war Alfa
Romeos in the workshop, including a proper 8C Monza, providing an
excellent reference for measurements, details, and finishes. The
engine underwent a comprehensive rebuild in New Zealand, featuring
forged rods and pistons, upgraded cams, and oil pumps, designed to
ensure both reliability and performance suitable for touring and
competitive vintage racing. The inclusion of a Roots-type
supercharger, meticulously crafted to match the original 8C 2300
Monza specifications, further enhances its capabilities. The
engine, upon completion, produced impressive results on the dyno,
delivering 180 brake horsepower and 210 lbs./ft. of torque.This 6C
Monza features several distinguishing elements characteristic of
the original 8C Monzas. It is equipped with a correctly oversized
tachometer, adjustable Siata dampers, and original Bosch ancillary
components. Additionally, it boasts a fully restored 6C 1750 GS
steering box and column, providing an authentic and responsive
driving experience. The correct rear end and gearbox were also
rebuilt, notably with the 6C 2300 gearbox which features
synchromesh on the two gears making it more user-friendly than an
8C.For enhanced safety and performance, the car is fitted with a
right-side accelerator and hydraulic brakes, while retaining the
proper compensators and original rods and levers. These brakes can
be reverted to mechanical specifications if desired. The sale
includes an additional set of fully machined brake drums, ready for
use.The non-original components integrated during the restoration
are of the highest quality, with numerous 8Cs serving as patterns.
Each component was photographed, measured, and rendered in CAD
drawings before being hand-tooled to match the original. Photos
documenting the various stages of restoration are included with the
sale.Since its completion, this Alfa has participated in numerous
East Coast VSCCA events, including the Pittsburgh and New Jersey
Vintage Grand Prix, as well as at Pocono Raceway, and has completed
the Colorado Grand four times. Enthusiasts and restorers who have
driven the car consistently praise its performance and
reliability.This Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 Monza offers a unique

pre-war Alfa at a fraction of the cost of an original Monza. Poised
for its next rally, the car showcases a wonderful patina,
indicating it has been well-driven. Members of our staff
